The first volume of the new edition of The Shipley Family: Descendants of Adam Shipley is now being printed and is expected to be available at the end of June. This inaugural volume documents the descendants of Keturah Shipley, daughter of Adam and Lois Shipley. Additional volumes are being developed for each of Adam's children, as well as the unconnected lines.
Who Was Keturah Shipley?
Keturah Shipley was the fifth child of Adam and Lois Shipley. She married James Barnes before 1706, the year a deed recorded Keturah and her sister Lois as heirs to part of the family tract known as Shipley’s Choice. James Barnes had arrived in Maryland in 1676 aboard the Cecilius, eight years after Adam’s own arrival. Their many descendants form one of the major branches of the Shipley family—now documented more extensively in this volume.
About the New Edition
When the Shipleys last published its genealogy in 2002, the three‑volume set contained about 45,000 entries. The database has since grown to more than 86,000 descendants, and a new publication strategy was needed. Each of Adam’s five children with descendants will now have a dedicated volume, with an additional volume for unconnected lines. Volumes will be released individually as they are completed.
The new books are printed in an 8½ × 11 format, with genealogical data arranged in two columns per page. To maximize space, the focus is on dates and locations rather than biographical notes or photographs.
See If Your Family Appears in This Volume
This new Keturah volume consists of approximately 15,000 name records and 250 pages. You can browse the Index to see whether you or your ancestors appear in this volume before ordering (click to see Index): Keturah Name Index. Please note that we cannot make any changes to the Keturah volume at this time, since the book is already being printed. However, if you find any errors or have additional information, we will be able to include it in our online database when it is released. Depending on the level of feedback we receive, we are also contemplating publishing an errata sheet containing corrections/updates which would then be distributed to all purchasers.

While supplies last, copies may be purchased directly from us at the early‑bird rate. Please note that the copies are expected from the printer near the end of June, so ordering now will secure your copy in advance.
